🙏 After 30 Years, a Rare Somvati Amavasya Brings a Sacred Opportunity for Pitru Shanti Mahapuja at Kashi Ganga Ghat 🙏
According to Sanatan Dharma, Somvati Amavasya is considered one of the most spiritually powerful days for honoring ancestors and seeking their blessings. When Amavasya falls on a Monday (Somvar), the spiritual significance of the day is believed to increase manifold. Religious traditions consider this rare alignment highly auspicious for Pitru-related rituals, prayers, daan, and acts of remembrance dedicated to departed ancestors.
It is believed that after nearly 30 years, devotees are once again receiving the opportunity to participate in such a spiritually significant Somvati Amavasya observance. This rare occasion is considered especially beneficial for prayers related to ancestral peace, family harmony, emotional well-being, and spiritual upliftment.
Why Pitru Rituals are Considered Important on Somvati Amavasya
According to spiritual traditions, ancestors continue to bless and guide future generations. Rituals performed in their remembrance are viewed as sacred acts of gratitude, respect, and spiritual connection. It is believed that unresolved ancestral energies or emotional imbalances within a family lineage may sometimes manifest as repeated misunderstandings, family disputes, emotional distance, lack of peace at home, or obstacles in important areas of life.
Therefore, Pitru Shanti rituals performed on Somvati Amavasya are considered an opportunity to pray for ancestral peace and seek blessings for unity, prosperity, mutual understanding, and harmony within the family.
Scriptural traditions mention that prayers, tarpan, and daan performed on this sacred day help devotees express gratitude toward their forefathers while seeking divine grace for the well-being of the entire family lineage.

Kashi city, which is also called the city of salvation, is considered the ultimate pilgrimage for Pitru peace and attaining salvation. It is a belief that whoever takes their last breath in Kashi, attains salvation. For this reason, many devotees like to reside here in their final days. Pisach Mochan Kund located in Kashi is especially famous for Pitru Dosha Shanti. It is also mentioned in Garuda Purana and Kashi Khand, where it is stated that performing Pind-daan, Tarpan, and Pitru Dosha removal puja at this kund fulfills the unfulfilled desires of ancestors and they attain peace and liberation. The history of Pisach Mochan Kund is very ancient. It is said that this pilgrimage site existed even before the descent of the Ganga. This kund is associated with the story of a Brahmin, who became a Pisach (demon) due to his deeds. Under the guidance of Maharishi Valmiki, he worshipped Kapardeshwar Mahadev and bathed in the kund to get liberation. Since then, this place became famous by the name of Pisach Mochan. Meanwhile Assi Ghat, Kashi, which is also called Varanasi or Banaras, is situated on the banks of the holy Ganga and Assi Ghat is one of its most revered spiritual sites. Pilgrims coming from the country and abroad come here to take a holy bath in the Ganga. They believe that this bath washes away sins and opens the path to salvation. It is said that taking a bath on auspicious occasions, participating in Ganga Aarti, and praying at Assi Ghat brings blessings of health, prosperity, and spiritual growth and also ancestors attain peace.
