Rahu is regarded as the King of Kaliyuga. Paithani village in Uttarakhand is believed to house the only temple dedicated to Rahu, a devout follower of Lord Shiva. According to ancient legends, when Lord Vishnu cut off the head of the swarnabhanu asura, it fell here and became entombed beneath a sacred stone, now worshipped as the Rahu Shila in this Shiva temple complex. While the temple is primarily a Shivalaya, Rahu is also worshipped here, as Rahu was a devotee of Shiva. The temple is considered highly effective for balancing the negative energies during Rahu Mahadasha, and it is believed that the Pandavas performed remedies here during challenging planetary periods. The stones used resemble those in Kedarnath temple, indicating its ancient origins. Puranic traditions state that Adi Shankaracharya rediscovered this sacred site during his Himalayan journey, sensing its divine energy, and revived this forgotten temple.
